Financial Market Summary

FTSE 100 gained 0.3% to close at 5,723.7.

FTSEurofirst 300 index rose 0.1% to close at 1,052.2.

DJIA lost 0.1% to end at 13,060.1. NASDAQ gained 0.4% to close at 3,080.5. S&P 500 shed 0.1% to end at 1,398.1.

Nikkei 225 index is trading 1.1% lower at 9,585.9.

In Asia, crude oil for May delivery is trading $1.25 lower at $102.06 per barrel.

At 0400 BST today, the GBP is trading marginally lower against the USD at $1.5867, 0.2% higher against the EUR at €1.2148, and 0.2% lower against the JPY at ¥129.33.
